German Foreign Ministry awarded a grant to Regional Dialogue (Slovenia) for the implementation of the project “Raising capacity of NGOs in Uzbekistan”. On 18 May, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Germany to Uzbekistan H.E. Mr. Neithart Hoefer-Wissing and Mjusa Sever, Director of Regional Dialogue, solemnly signed the contract for the project. The project aims: • To strengthen the 'open' civil society in their activities on site, which represents a focal point of German and European policy on human rights in Uzbekistan; • To increase the political culture of the legal consciousness and sociopolitical commitment of citizens, where NGOs play an important role; • To provide new skills and more knowledge to the performing NGOs in Uzbekistan and encourage their increased participation in decision-making processes of the government involving civil society especially at local level and thus strengthening democracy. Members of EU and US diplomatic missions, Regional Dialogue staff from the Uzbek Branch office and Uzbek media attended the solemn ceremony conducted at German Embassy in Tashkent.
