International interactive session on Judicial Independence and Ethics in the Justice System
As part of its US State Department’s INL funded project, Regional Dialogue cooperated with the Research Center under the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Prosecutor General’s Office and Chamber of Advocates to conduct a two-day international interactive session in Tashkent from February 28 – March 1, 2017 with participating judges, prosecutors and lawyers. Held under the title “Judicial Independence and Ethics in the Justice System”, it engaged three international subject matter experts – Robert Cordy, partner at McDermott Will & Emery LL and retired Supreme Justice of Mass. Supreme Court; Hon. Judge Allen G. Swan, Mass. Appellate Court; and Daniel Small, partner at Holland &Knight, all from Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The event was underlined by open and opportune discussions among judges, prosecutors and defense lawyers on issues of the implementation of ethical and professional standards in their every day practice. During the event the international experts presented the federal witness protection program and Massachusetts state programs for victim and witness protection.
